Especially when just taking up golf, you will need to keep an eye on your expenditure, with all the equipment, club fees and training you will require to get started. That’s why I have decided to write about these relatively inexpensive Callaway Strata golf clubs which will serve the purpose very well and leave you with money for your other purchases.
The good news regarding the Strata clubs is that they come in a wide selection for both the men’s version and the women’s version. These variations include the numbers of clubs in each set, options to buy Tour Sets and a choice of bag colors. We will go into these choices further down the page.

Purchasing golf products produced by the more common manufacturers like Ping, Callaway, Mizuno, TaylorMade, Titleist and Wilson will soon run away with your golfing budget. At $1,000 and more is what you can expect to pay for a new complete set of these branded versions.
On the other hand, a set of Strata golf clubs, which are still a good quality set can be a lot easier on your pocket. Believe it or not, but Callaway are the makers of Strata clubs, the only difference being that they don’t bear the Callaway name.
Callaway, like the other big names understand that there is still a very big market for the less expensive golf club sets. And this is their way of increasing their market share. Albeit they don’t have the very latest Callaway’s features or the logo, but they do have built in reliability and are made from materials of a decent quality.
In any case, I have never heard a of a logo being responsible for winning a tournament although the advertisements might have you thinking otherwise. The truth is, that being able to find an affordable set of clubs might be the difference in being able to get out there and play the game now, rather than having to save for a good few months to be able to afford a more expensive set.
Each Golf Club Set Version Explained
Part of keeping the cost lower is of course the reduction in the number of clubs in the bag. Certainly, no big problem for many players and definitely not a problem for beginners.

So, let’s break it down to what each set consists of and what set would be the best match for each individual contemplating making a purchase.
First off, just to clear up a lot of confusion some folks have with the set numbers in the range. For example.
A Strata 11-piece women’s set does not mean having 11 clubs. The set comprises of: The Driver, 5 Wood, 5 Hybrid, 7 & 9 Iron, SW, Putter, Stand Bag, and 3 Head covers. Which is 7 clubs and 4 accessories.
OK, with that cleared up let’s start with:
Woman’s Callaway Strata Golf Club Sets
Women’s 11-Piece Set
This the most basic set available from the Strata range and would suit anyone thinking about taking up golf. Being the cheapest there is less to lose if deciding to give the game up soon after purchasing.
This set includes:
The Driver – As with most modern drivers these days the club features a large club head of 460 cubic centimeters which is the maximum permitted size allowed under USGA Rules. Or 28.06 cubic inches if you understand inch measurements better.
The head is titanium and the shaft is graphite. The large, sweet spot gives that bit more forgiveness allowing for a better hit with more distance from the tee.
Fairway Wood – In this set comes a 5 wood, again of the more forgiving oversized type. The aerodynamic designed shape of the head will ensure the ball gets airborne to help avoid fairway bunkers and other waiting hazards.
Hybrid – You will find the A5 Hybrid handy when trying to get up close to the green from the fairway as the longest iron in the set is the 7 iron.
Irons – Consist of a 7 iron, 9 iron and a sand wedge made of stainless steel.
Putter – Which is described on Amazon as a mallet putter with alignment and indeed on the Callaway site but for me, I would refer to it as a blade type. Being a beginner set, it probably won’t make much difference to the user which type it is as long as it does the job.
Stand Bag – For the 11-piece set Is in pink with 5 pockets rain cover and strap.
Head Covers – Comes complete with 3 head covers in pink color to match the bag.
Available in right-hand and left-hand versions.
Women’s 14-Piece Set
This is a step up available from the Strata range and would make an ideal first set for any woman serious about playing golf. Whether you have played before and upgrading, or as a starter set for the beginner, you’re sure to be delighted.
Other than what’s in the previous listed 11-piece set, the 14-piece set also includes:
A 6 iron and an 8 iron which provide a couple more options with your iron play. Also, a pitching wedge to give a bit more distance than what the sand wedge will offer. Handy for those longer pitches onto the green.
The color of the bag and headcovers in this set are Teal.

Women’s 16-Piece Set
The next step up in the range is their full set and would make an ideal set for any woman serious about playing the game. Whether you have played before and upgrading, or as a starter set for the beginner, you’re sure to be delighted.
Other than what’s included in the 14-piece set mentioned above, the 16-piece set also includes:
A 3 Wood and a 4 Hybrid to give a few more options from the tee or when out on the fairways, complete with the extra covers.
The color of the bag and headcovers in this set are Purple.
Available in both Right and Left hand versions.
Women’s 16-Piece Tour Set
Again, a full set with the only difference from the previous 16-piece set being that the driver is a lightweight forged driver. Forged clubs are more expensive to produce.
The bag and covers are also different and come in a Gold color.
Again available in both Right and Left hand versions.
Men’s Strata Golf Club Sets Selection
Men’s Regular 12-Piece Set includes:
Driver – Is a lightweight forged driver with oversized head of 460cc which is 28.06 cubic inches providing a large sweet spot ensuring greater forgiveness.
Fairway Wood – Is a 3 wood, again of the oversized head type with aerodynamic shape.
Hybrid – With a 5 Hybrid that gets the ball up in the air avoiding those fairway traps.
Irons – The irons come in a good selection which include the 6, 7, 8 and 9 irons plus a pitching wedge.
Putter – Again a putter described as a mallet putter the same as the woman’s sets with alignment.
Stand Bag – A lightweight 5 pocket stand bag complete with rain hood and carrying strap in a blue color.
Head Covers – 2 matching blue head covers completes the regular 12-Piece Set.
Available in both Right and Left Hand versions.
Men’s Regular 14-Piece Set
Also named the Strata Plus set. The differences from the men’s 12-peice set mentioned above and the 14-piece set is the addition of a sand wedge and an extra head cover for the 5 hybrid.
No mention of driver being forged although the driver and 3 wood both have graphite shafts.
Choose between the Right Hand version and Left Hand versions.
The addition of the sand wedge is definitely worth any price increase as far as I’m concerned.
OK, so you may save a few dollars by buying the basic set, instead of upgrading to this 14-piece set. But this would only end up costing you a lot more strokes attempting to get out of bunkers without the proper club designed for the job.

Men’s Regular 16-Piece Set
The next full set in the men’s range is the 16-piece set, referred to as the Callaway Strata Ultimate.
In this set you’ll find the addition of a 4 Hybrid and the head cover for the club.
This club gives another option out on the fairways.
Right Hand and Left Hand versions to choose from.
Regular 16-Piece Tour Set or Stiff 16-Piece Tour Set
The 16-piece Strata Tour Package Set brings back the addition of the lightweight forged driver which we found in the 12-piece Strata set.
There is also the choice in this tour set, to go for the regular version or if you prefer to play with stiff shafts you have that option.
Again, you can choose Right Hand or Left Hand sets.
Have You Found Your Ideal Set?
So, whether you’re looking for a Woman’s set or a Men’s set in the above selection, you’re sure to find something at a very affordable price, with the knowledge they were built by a reputable company.
Perhaps you have been playing for some time and feel that you’re due treating yourself. Your clubs might be of the old design. You might not have played for some time and out of touch with what modern day clubs consist of. If so, you’re in for a bit of a surprise as to how well they play.
